This place is a lot of fun and I would go back. My family asked what kind of restaurant I wanted to go to, and I said "Iowa Pork" and they immediately said Midtown. I had a pork tenderloin sandwich. It's a breaded piece of meat the size of a pizza. Rock on, Iowa!!! The shop was full of very old people at 2PM, but it has free wifi. If I lived nearby I'd go here every day! Definitely give it a visit!

Service - Fast and friendly. Food - Left to be desired. 1. Butterflied Pork Chops - I expected... a butterflied pork chop. Instead, I got a pounded piece of ground pork which was overcooked. Biscuits were too soft and gravy bland.

Wife makes fun of me for liking this place, since we're usually the youngest people there by 20-40 years. Still, when I need gravy or ranch dressing on something, or a decent club sandwich, this is it. It's corny, simple touches like grenadine in your coke win me over. Mozz sticks (although I'm sure are just frozen from a bag) are the best. I'd stay away from these salads, not really my style (mostly white iceberg lettuce with cheese, ham, and eggs). Good value for the price.

If sometimes you crave simple fare, like an open faced roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy, then Midtown is an affordable option that delivers decent portions of middle of the road diner food. The location is convenient if you live on the east side of town, and I believe it's the only place on the east side (besides Hy Vee) where you can sit down and order a traditional big breakfast on a Saturday morning ... Or any morning. I've found their food to be on the bland side, but having said that, there is something comforting about the place ... It's a small-town Iowa diner from yesteryear, nothing more nothing less. Like another reviewer wrote, it's kinda like eating in a senior center cafeteria, with food to match. My kids like going to diners and ordering pancakes off the kiddie menu ... but unfortunately for them, certain chain restaurants in town actually serve much better chocolate chip pancakes ... complete with chocolate syrup and whipped cream, which is conspicuously absent from Midtown's plate. But kids don't need all that sugar anyway, I guess.

First off CHEAP!!! in a great way. Our bill for dinner was under $30, well I think it was, boyfriend wouldn't let me see the bill. But I know our meals were cheap, and his left plenty for leftovers. I got a salad, which was good, but doesn't travel well so I left it. But his chicken fried steak had plenty left. The restaurant was empty, so our waiter had plenty of time to check on us, which he did, but not overbearingly so as sometimes happens when you go to a restaurant when its empty. We'll definitely return.

There's nothing too bad about this place but nothing that is extremely stellar either. The service has always been good when I've been there. They are always extremely nice and attentive. The decor definately reminds me off a senior center. This is probably due to the fact that seniors seem to make up a large share of their clientel (at least from my experiences). The food was always good but nothing mind blowing. The prices are fair as are the portions. The tenderloin sandwhich I had there once was huge and tasty which always gets a thumbs up in my book. If your looking for no frills home cooking, you could do a lot worse than eat here.

Bland food with a senior-center cafeteria ambiance. This place is close to home so I've been a few times. The tenderloins and onion rings are OK but beyond these fried staples the food is mediocre.

Really fast service, but terrible food. The obly things that had any flavor was the baked beans and the ranch dressing I had to drench my food in. My waitress was annoyingly over attentive, stopping at my about six times. I was in and out in 20 minutes, so if you don't care about flavor and you're in a hurry it's a great place to eat. However, if you care how thd meal you just paid $10 for tastes, might I suggest McDonald's just down the street. Even McDonald's has more flavor than this food.

I really don't recommend this place. Food is not cooked right. Food has no taste. Service sucks and not really family welcoming

Decent breakfast food. Has the basic staples including eggs any way you like them, bacon, pancakes, etc. There are some better breakfast spots in Iowa City, Coralville, and North Liberty.

This is a home style kind of place. Not sure how many people would be there at dinner time but at lunch it was packed. Mostly an older crowd but surprisingly for as cheap as it is the portions are huge. Not many sandwiches beat me but this one did, didn't even get to the fries it came with.
